Kilauea Glow Dimmed By Recent Rock Fall

VOLCANO, Hawaii (AP) — The bright glow at the summit of Hawaii’s Kilauea (KILL’-uh-WAY’-uh) volcano has been snuffed out by a series of large rock falls within its crater.
The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory says the rock falls on Tuesday produced a seismic signal equivalent to a magnitude-2.4 earthquake.

5.0 Earthquake on Big Island

HONOLULU — Residents from all over the Big Island reported feeling a 5.0 earthquake that struck on Tuesday, U.S. Geological Survey officials sadi.
The quake centered in the Hilina region of Kilauea Volcano at 12:45 p.m., the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.

Hawaii’s Tsunami Network Upgrades Face Delays

HONOLULU – Scientists have upgraded Hawaii’s seismic monitors after the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami prompted the U.S. government to improve American tsunami warning systems.
But some of the upgrades are merely temporary and haven’t been made to the highest standards. Slow-moving bureaucracy has delayed improvements in some cases.

Big Island Feels Earthquake Tremor – Registers a 2.9

A small earthquake registering 2.9 on the Richter Scale rumbled through the Big Island today.  The Honolulu Advertiser reports:
A very minor earthquake rolled across the ocean floor about 2:45 a.m. this morning approximately 20 miles north-northwest of Kalaoa on the Big Island.
