Bob Fest & Agricultural Fair was created to celebrate the birth of the Legendary Reggae Artist and to make a correlation between the Spring celebration & the Spring planting season by including the agricultural fair. 2009 saw 2,000 attendees to the Free Family Day Event held at Mo’oheau Park and Bandstand in Downtown Hilo, Hawaii.

This Sunday, Feb. 7th – Noon until 6:00 PM

Billy Kreutzman is in Pahoa this Saturday night to round out his Hawaii tour.

The celebration moves to the Big Island town of Pahoa to the historic Akebono Theater. Chris Berry really wanted to play for his new neighborhood in Hawaii and it will be a exciting finish to his first Hawaiian island tour.

Big Island Tea Gaining Steam

Everyone knows about Kona Coffee, but what about the tea?

The NYTimes has an article in the Dining & Wine section about the rise in commercial teas in Kona and on the Big Island – boosted in part with the help of the Department of Agriculture.

Hawaii is known for its Kona coffee. Now there is also tea. It’s not so new, having been introduced on the Big Island in 1887, but only in the last 10 years or so, with encouragement from the federal Department of Agriculture, have serious commercial growers cultivated high-quality teas.

SAY ALOHA Eva Lee and her husband, Chiu Leong, are now sending two teas from their company, Tea Hawaii, to Samovar Tea Lounge in San Francisco, where the teas are sold and will be added to its Web site on Aug. 7. The black tea has a winy richness, and the oolong is layered with subtle earthiness. Neither is bitter. Another company, Mauna Kea Tea, offers oolong and green teas shipped directly from Hawaii, as does Hilo Coffee Mill, which also has an oolong.

Its nice to see other agricultural products from the Big Island get some recognition!

Show Your Shaka at Waiakea Center For a Free Drink

Hilo, Hawai‘i – Waiakea Center Food Court has launched its “Show Your Shaka” summer promotion, giving out free soft drinks in exchange for a quick flash of the shaka sign through the end of August.

“Waiakea Center Food Court offers a great variety of foods for local tastes and local budgets. And what’s more local than the shaka?” said Property Manager, Nancy Sakamoto.

“Show Your Shaka” started on July 1st and will run through August 31, 2009. The offer is valid at L&L Drive Inn, Ichiban Express, and Kalbi Express only, with the purchase of $4.99 or more. Customers should see these participating restaurants for details.

Waiakea Center offers shopping, dining, family entertainment, banking and other services. It is home to Wal-Mart, Ross Dress For Less, Office Max and Borders.
